For some students, Starbucks and McDonalds may be where they are on a weekday night studying for their science test. But are those the only places they can go?

There are plenty of places around Lee’s Summit to go to for some quiet time to do homework or study.

Across from the Stanley in downtown Lee’s Summit, Poppy’s Ice cream and Coffee House serves treats to munch on while studying and doing homework.

According to Poppy’s current manager Katie Lukowzk, Poppy’s is very welcoming to students wishing to study. “Studiers are more than welcomed, there’s free seating inside or outside, and we have an abundance of pens behind the counter,” she said.

Poppy’s serves Chips Chocolate Factory’s and Broadway Cafe Coffee products, ice cream, gluten free popcorn, and many other treats to eat while studying.

Poppy’s is open from noon until 10:00 pm but these hours may change with every season.

On another side of Lee’s Summit, Gusto’s Coffee Shop across from Longview Community College is one of the most popular study spots shared between both college and high school students.

Gusto’s is privately owned by Steve. He said about his coffee shop, “Gusto’s is one of the best places to study. It’s always full with people studying all the time.”

The restaurant has a number of beverages and food that to chew and chip on while studying. Their menu includes coffees, teas, espressos, juices, custom sodas, hot beverages, bagels, cinnamon rolls, muffins, yogurt, and many other items.

Gusto’s has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It also has a gluten-free menu to choose from and fresh bakery items.

Gusto’s is open 7 days a week and the times are as follows: Monday through Friday opening at 6 am and closing at 8 pm, on Saturday it opens at 7 am and closes at 8 pm, and on Sunday it opens at 7 am and closes at 6 pm.

According to AcademicTips.org the library is the all time best places you can study or do schoolwork. It has a quiet environment and has librarians who would be more than willing to help at any time needed.

The Mid-Continent Library on Oldham Parkway, near Hyvee, is one of Lee’s Summit’s libraries. It is open Monday through Thursday closing at 9 pm, on Friday it is open till 6 pm, and on Saturday it is open until 5 pm.

Mid-Continent is a great location for school work because it is near West and has lots of materials to help with certain subjects.
