With the school year coming to a close, West’s very own Marching Band has been planning ahead to start thinking about and working on the marching show for this fall.

After much time of collaboration, Cliff Thurmond and Shawn Harrel came up with the decision for the Marching Band's new uniforms.
After much time of collaboration, Cliff Thurmond and Shawn Harrel came up with the decision for the Marching Band’s new uniforms.

Cliff Thurmond, band director, said, “We began brainstorming several options back in February. What would fit THIS band, and what would be a dynamic way to start the second decade at West. ‘Beethoven’ was what we came up with,” Thurmond said.

Thurmond has very high hopes for what will be coming for this show in the fall.

“It’s not that Beethoven fits the band, but this style of show fits the band. Something that is entertaining to the football crowd, as well as fun and competitive for our shows,” Thurmond said.

Thurmond hopes that the band will be able to dedicate themselves to make this show the best one yet. A new show is not the only thing about the band that will be different. The band is also getting new uniforms.

Thurmond said, “We received many drawings from several different companies and chose the one we liked the best, after editing it a bit, of course.”

Finally, one special surprise that the band will have is a time machine being put together by several music parents. It will be used to help create the effect of going back in time to when Beethoven was around.

Thurmond hopes that the kids love the final decision and having the new uniforms will help make a statement to mark the start of a new decade.
