When it comes down to it, sometimes “it’s more just seeing them work hard and play together as an actual team than the actual results.”
Recently, the Varsity soccer team won a big tournament, Senior Cole Meisner told why it was such a big win for the Titans.
“We had actually never won the tournament before and I don’t know if we had ever won against Blue Valley Northwest. So going into that tournament we were really looking forward to playing them and we played them with two players down and some of our best players and we ended up beating them,” Meisner said.
Playing and winning these big tournament doesn’t go without hard work and dedication.
Meisner said, “We’ve definitely worked very hard during the summers, we start basically at the very beginning of the summer doing conditioning and then we go into practices and we try to make those practices as effective as possible, very high intensity so our shape is up to par and our work rate.”
The win was very well earned and when the team had reached their goal of winning all three games and beating Blue Valley Northwest, and very challenging team for the team to beat, Sophomore Nick Lumbard was feeling the effects.
“It was awesome it was the first time we’ve ever won that tournament so to get a win for the school was pretty cool,” said Lumbard.
The athletes on the team weren’t the only ones that were pumped about the win, Head Coach Chris Brizendine said how he felt getting the win.
Brizendine said, “They just played really well and stepped up and it was a solid three games, I think for an early season tournament we played in midseason form.”
Even though all the athletes and coaches wanted the win they wanted to see the players grow as a team even more.
“Obviously we’re wanting to win games and win the tournament but really we just wanted to see the progress of developing with our guys and becoming a team so seeing them play well and be such a good team,” said Brizendine.
