As we all know, the Grammys are one of the most anticipated events of this time of year, and students from LSW have their speculations. Let’s hear the takes from our fellow students: Sophomore Chesney Dublinske, Sophomore Jonah Michael, and Junior Madison Moore.
Dublinske’s favorite genre of music is chamber pop. “It’s kind of like Fiona Apple and like everyone who is like Fiona Apple, like Lisa Germano, and Anja Garbarek,” she stated. Michael’s favorite genre to listen to is rap. He said, “It tells a true story of people’s lives … you can have all the emotions. In some genres, you can only have one emotion.” Lastly, Moore showed her liking for rap and pop, with her favorite artist being Tyler, the Creator.

All three students have been watching the Grammys for a while now, for a few years at least. Dublinske has been watching for 2-3 years and expressed, “I think a lot of celebrities aren’t going to go to the Grammys this year because of some of the protests and stuff we have going on.” Michael has been watching for three years (since 2023) and speculated, “I don’t really think much things are gonna change. I think it’s going to be basically the same thing as last year.” Lastly, Moore has been watching for a couple of years and said, “I think the Grammys will be no different this year.”
Next, let’s discover why they stay anticipated. Dublinske shared, “I’m really into the fashion; most of the time I don’t even watch the whole award show. I just love to look at the videos of them on the runway showing off their fits.” She also started to enjoy fashion, symbolizing current events. Michael said, “I like knowing who the top person is or seeing what genre is usually big.” Moore says similarly, “The fashion choices interest me … I think some people have evolved and some people have kind of just taken it less seriously.”

Finally, which nominees do our students have high hopes for? Dublinske voiced how this year has so many possibilities, “This year, I feel like there were so many good albums that came out … I’m hoping Deftones gets an award for album of the year.” Besides Deftones for their new album, she expressed how she also really enjoyed Tyler, the Creator’s album, Don’t Tap the Glass, and Chappel Roan’s single, The Subway due to their uniqueness and high popularity. Next, Michael said, “I think either Kendrick or Tyler, the Creator will win.” He speculates that because the Kendrick-Drake feud is still active, which has sparked online interest, and Tyler has dropped two new albums recently back-to-back. “I have high hopes for the album, Chromakopia … It’s a lot more abstract and dynamic than it is stereotypical,” Moore said. She thinks the features of the album, such as Doechii and GloRilla, have grown in recognition, promoting overlooked artists.
To conclude, a few of LSW students gave their takes, with some being common. So, what do you think: do you share the same opinions with like-minded students?
