When it comes to 2017 movies, it’s the year of squeals, reboots, reimagines of tv shows. Not many big movies this year are originals, most are big budget action movies that have focus more on money than artistic cinematography.

The number of superhero movies this year is too many to bother talking about. Between Marvel and DC there are 7 superhero themed movies.

When it comes to remakes the biggest on out there seems to be “The Beauty and the Beast” live action movie with Emma Watson and a CGI Beast. The movie looks decent and Emma Watson was a good pick for Belle. She brings the intelligence that Belle has, along with a good singing voice

Another remake of a children movie is the beloved 90s movie, “Jumanji.” With Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson at the helm it hopefully will keep the child-like charm while still having the same tone and message. A remake of King Kong is also coming out in 2017 and will surely be better than the last King Kong movie from 2005. With amazing actors like Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman, this movie will have to work really to fail.

And the last category of movies for 2017 is squeals. A lot of the squeals of 2017 come from movies that either came out a couple years ago or a couple decades ago. Disney is coming back with “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” when the last movie came out in 2011 and the Transformers return after 2014 with “Transformers: The Last Knight.” Both franchises lost money on their last film so it’s a surprise that they are coming out with a new movie. Surprisingly Disney and Pixar are releasing “Cars 3” as well and with the twist in the commercial, it could turn out much better than “Cars 2”

More recent squeals include the “Fifty Shades Darker”, “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” and “Despicable Me 3”. The first Kingsman was a pleasant surprise in 2014 so there is a good chance that it will bring a even better surprise in 2017.

Not many new advertised shows are coming out in this new year. A couple new superhero tv shows that are connected to the Marvel and DC universe with a continuation of “Luke Cage” and “Jessica Jones.”

DC is releasing a new show called “Powerless” which stars Vanessa Hudgens. “Powerless” follows the humans as they live life while superheroes battle villains around them. It looks to be a funny comedy that answers what people think living in a world where super heroes destroy the city once a week.

Say what you will about 2016, it had great music so 2017 has a lot to live up too. Many artists have albums that have to release date other than sometime 2017. Some artists like Lorde, Katy Perry and Gorillaz haven’t released an album since the earlier part of this decade, so it’s a long time in the making.

After Lorde’s first album released in 2013, she’s been asked time and time again when the next one will be released. She teased everyone with an Instagram post about it, and knowing Lorde, it will live up to it expectation.

Katy Perry is also making her coming back after 4 years of almost silence. Last year her single “Rise” was used as a theme song for the Rio summer Olympics. This album was actually suppose to come out in 2016 but was pushed back. After her “disgraced” break from music, it’s going to be awesome to see what she has in store.

Other big artists include The Chainsmokers, Ed Sheeran, Drake, Taylor Swift, Jay Z., U2, Justin Timberlake and John Mayer. Both Drake and The Chainsmokers did much better last year than anyone had anticipated. The Chainsmokers surprised everyone by being good after their terrible single, “Let me take a #selfie,” which turned out was a joke. They continue to put out single after single.

Some other artists you probably don’t think about are coming back in 2017 as well. Beck, Icona Pop, Fergie, Brad Paisley, Haim, Shania Twain, Cher, Bruce Springsteen, Major Lazer, The Killers, Vampire Weekend and tons more. Pretty much no matter what genre you like, you’ll experience an album for your favorites.
