Battle of the brains is a K-12 STEM competition, hosted by Burns and McDonnell, that  Lee’s Summit schools take part in every year. The prize? A part of $155,000 worth of scholarships and grants in STEM related education. This year, students at West are participating with the help of sponsors Eric Walters and Joey Franz.

The basis of the competition is to create an exhibit idea for Science City, and the team of students that wins will have their idea come to life. The teams will have until November 2 to upload their idea to the judges, and the finalists will be announced a month later, on December 2. After that, they hope to make it to the public voting round. “We will need the support of the whole school,” Walters said.
