The Missouri Math League Contest is held in Bateman Hall the second Tuesday of each month, starting from October and going until April. Math department teacher and Math Club Sponsor, Katherine Thompson, is the only teacher in charge of the competition at West.
Thompson said the test consists of six challenging, problem-solving questions with 30 minutes to complete it. The test does not need to be completed, but she said, “You just need to have a love for completing challenging math problems.”
The top five students’ test scores from the entire year are entered and then compared to other high schools in Missouri. Thompson said West scored 2nd overall in the 20-21 school year and 1st in 19-20. Although the tests are difficult, she said she thinks they’re beneficial because they challenge “even our brightest students at LSW.”
